PAC Scholarship Programs
SSCCP's scholarship programs, administrated through and funded by the Parent Advisory Council (PAC), help remove barriers to ensure that finances are not prohibitive to any family's participation in our program. Both the Wendi Hirshberg Memorial Fund and the Mary E. Phillips Scholarship Fund work in tandem to provide up to 50% of tutition fees for qualifying families. More information about the scholarship application process, as well as the histories of both funds, is available below.
Wendi Hirshberg Memorial Fund
Mary E. Phillips Scholarship Fund
Known for nurturing the parents of newborns and toddlers, beloved parent educator Wendi Hirshberg helped so many families build a strong foundation as they started their parenting journey. She is most remembered for her enthusiasm, warmth, non-judgmental spirit and true empathy. A lifelong learner herself, Wendi was always ready to share the latest in child development and guidance. With many co-teachers, Wendi created a welcoming team and place for parents to connect with one another and start to build their “village.” Even second and third time parents came back to get that smile, hugs, and personal “Wendi time.” Wendi was also asked to teach in the APPLE Parenting Program where her ability to nurture, won over any potential barriers of English Language Learners and families who experienced an extra layer of life challenges.

Donations in Wendi’s honor can be made to the Co-op program she loved so that families in need can receive financial tuition support.
Mary E. Phillips was a pioneering force at South Seattle College, serving as the first coordinator of the Home and Family Life Department when the college opened in the early 1970s. Prior to her time at South Seattle College, she also worked at Seattle Central, and her impact as a Parenting Instructor was deeply felt by generations of parents. Known for her dedication to supporting families, Mary guided countless parents through their early years of child-rearing with compassion and expertise. In recognition of her contributions, the Parent Advisory Council renamed its scholarship fund in her honor upon her retirement in the 1980s. The Mary E. Phillips Scholarship Fund continues to support parents in their educational journeys, keeping her legacy alive for new generations of families.
