Jen Giomi

SSC Parenting Educator

A Bit About Me

Jen was born and raised in Seattle. As a graduate of the University of Washington in International Studies and with a desire to explore, she travelled after college. Travel led to living and working overseas in Demark, Canada, Belgium and Spain. After seven years and many adventures overseas, it was time to come home. Jen began her real work in “parent education” raising her four children. They have been her constant teachers and inspiration. She has been learning and/or working in the field of parent education for 26 years.
In addition to working with the SSC Cooperative Preschool and Parent Education Program, Jen works for BELONG Partners, an educational non-profit that works with adults who work with children – educators, legal professionals, parents/caregivers, etc. – to build strong communities where children (and adults) feel safety, belonging and significance. This trauma-responsive SEL work dovetails well with her work in the Cooperative Preschool program. Both roles support each other and create greater opportunities to learn and grow in this work.
When not working, Jen loves to spend time with her family – nothing is more fun the playing Catan, Exploding Kittens, axe throwing, boating, dancing and more with the crew. She also loves travel and with children in Spain, NY and AZ there are lots of people to see and places to go. At home she enjoys gardening, reading, walking, sporting events, going out dancing with friends and an occasional shot or two of Tequila.

What is your superpower?

Sitting in chaos ;)

Share your favorite preschooler-approved joke!

How do you make a tissue dance? You put a little boogie in it!

Share the most unusual or adorable item you've found in your pocket after a day at school.

Cap from a gallon of milk. Given to me by a child who needed me to hold onto the cap for their special creation (which they decided not to finish)

What does co-op mean to you?

Honestly, it changed our life as a family in so many positive and helpful ways that I want whole-heartedly for others to have the same opportunity to grow and learn through the program. Raising children is hard and with strong foundations and helpful, intentional tools, it can be the most rewarding and heart-filling job ever, the deepest source of peace.
