Twos
Two is a year of enormous growth. Children are becoming more independent, more verbal, more imaginative, and more interested in the people around them. Twos gives them a safe, playful place to practice all of it, with experienced teachers and a community of adults learning alongside them.
“Being in co-op helped us move through those ‘Terrible Twos’ I had heard about. They weren’t so bad because I had friends going through it together, with the help of our teachers!”
Twos at a Glance

Children's Program
Two-year-olds are eager to explore and increasingly determined to do things for themselves. In Twos, children learn through hands-on play in a classroom designed for their growing independence.
They experiment, pretend, create, move, build, and begin forming relationships with other children. As language develops, teachers help children find words for their needs, navigate big feelings, and practice the early social skills that make playing together possible.
The goal is not to rush children toward independence, but to give them the security and support they need to grow into it with confidence.
Separation looks different for every child. Some children are ready quickly for their independent class morning, while others need more time. We follow your child’s lead and work with your family to make that transition gradually and successfully.

What Class Looks like
Each class follows a predictable rhythm designed to help children feel secure, engaged, and ready to learn through play.
Choice Time
Children choose from classroom activities and practice exploring, imagining, creating, and playing alongside others.
Clean-Up Time
Children begin learning that caring for their classroom is part of being in a community. Together, we put materials away after all that joyful mess-making.
Story & Circle Time
Children practice listening, participating in a group, enjoying books, and joining songs and conversations.
Snack Time
Children sit together for a healthy snack provided by families according to program and health guidelines.
Music & Movement
Songs, movement, rhythm, and active play give children opportunities to use their voices and their whole bodies.

Support for Parents & Caregivers
One adult from each family enrolls through South Seattle College as part of the co-op program.
Two-year-olds are discovering a powerful idea: “I can do it myself.” That growing independence is exciting, and it can also make parenting more complicated.
In co-op, adults are learning too. A South Seattle College parent educator participates in the program and helps families understand child development, behavior, communication, and the everyday challenges that come with this stage. Families can ask questions, share experiences, and learn from one another throughout the year.
Just as importantly, co-op gives families the chance to build real relationships with other parents, grandparents, caregivers, and adults who are navigating the same stage of childhood. You do not have to figure out the twos alone.
How Families Participate
Co-op works because families are active participants in the classroom and the community.
In Twos, your family's participation includes:
Working in the classroom one morning each week, alongside the children’s teacher.
Helping provide snack on a rotating basis.
Participating in a monthly class meeting, combining preschool business, community-building, and parent education.
Taking on a co-op job that fits your interests, skills, and available time.
Attending a quarterly parent education seminar from a range of practical parenting and child-development topics.
Participation can be shared. Grandparents, nannies, aunties, uncles, and other important adults in your child's life are welcome to take part and help your family fulfill its co-op commitments.
