Alki Co-op Preschool is its own 501(c)(3) non-profit under the umbrella of the SSCCP network.
Alki Co-op Preschool, now located at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, blends play-based learning with a unique twist. From hands-on STEAM exploration and Outdoor Day adventures to our Multi-Age Drop-Off class, Alki kids get to wonder, move, build, play, and belong.
As part of the SSCCP program, families grow alongside their children, with parent education, community support, and a new tiered tuition model that keeps high-quality community-centered preschool affordable.
About Alki Co-op
Alki Co-op Preschool has been serving West Seattle families for over 70 years, offering a child-centered, play-based education grounded in the values of community, equity, and hands-on learning. Now located in the historic Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in Delridge, we continue our long tradition of supporting both children and parents during the essential early years of development.
At Alki, we view play as serious learning. Our curriculum is designed to engage children's natural curiousity while building foundational skills in problem-solving, emotional regulation, and social development. Whether it's through imaginative play, messy art, science experiments, or outdoor exploration, children are encouraged to use their bodies, hearts, and minds to discover their world.
As a member of the South Seattle College Cooperative Preschool program (SSCCP), Alki offers something unique: families are active participants in the classroom, working alongside professional teachers and receiving guidance from professional parent educators. This model supports not just the child, but the whole family, building loasting relationships, parenting skills, and a shared sense of purpose.
In keeping with our values of inclusion and accessibility, Alki has introduced a voluntary tiered tuition system. This allows families with greater financial flexibility to help make high-quality early education affordable for more members of our community.
At its heart, Alki Co-op is more than a preschool. It's a vibrant, intergenerational community where children thrive and families grow, together.

Tiered Tuition
Alki Co-op Preschool is introducing an optional tiered tuition system for some classes (2s, 3s, Pre-K). The system is three-tiered, with tuition increased for higher-income families. By having families opt into paying more, Alki Co-op hopes to keep tuition prices affordable and accessible to more families. In short, we're asking familes who can pay more to do so. We see this as in keeping with the spirit of equity, inclusion, and community that are core to our Co-op mission.
Tuition tiers are:
(a) suggested, not required
(b) based on US census data for the Seattle-area on income quartiles
(c) self-selected and self-reported (no income verification of any kind)
(d) visible only to admin (staff that help run the preschool)
